Position Profile
The Development Director reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and works with staff from all five AIP Foundation offices to develop and oversee implementation of organization-wide fundraising strategies. This position is responsible for managing a development team of 6 to 10 junior staff across AIP Foundation offices, executing training and ensuring that the team works in line with the fundraising strategies. In addition, the Development Director works closely with AIP Foundation’s accounting, monitoring & evaluation, and communications team to ensure the effective proposal development. The Development Director also works to cultivate relationships with a wide range of donors and has a strong understanding of multi-lateral and bi-lateral donor trends and landscapes.
Responsibilities
Development Strategy Plans
· Work closely with AIP Foundation leadership to develop annual as well as 3-5 year development strategy plans, which link directly to the overall and country-specific goals of the organization. The Development director will ensure full implementation of these strategies through the organization’s structure.
Oversee and Train Development Staff
· Oversee a 6 to 10 person development team, mostly composed of English-speaking foreigners on short-term (6 months – 2 years) contracts through international service organizations. Develop and execute an improved training program to increase capacity of staff within these positions.
Corporate and Foundation Sponsors
· Cultivate and nurture new relationships with corporate and foundation sponsors.
Multi-Lateral and Bi-Lateral Aid
· Research and develop plans to access multi-lateral and bi-lateral aid sources; execute proposals and assist with organization-wide reforms necessary to access and manage these funds.
Individual Donors
· Cultivate and nurture new relationships with individual donors through meetings and networking events; oversee annual individual giving campaigns.
Proposal Development, Writing and Reporting
· Oversee the development process for all new proposals, including the necessary meeting scheduling, contributions from key program staff, and budgeting decisions. Along with the Chief Executive Officer, the Development Manager is responsible for approving final versions of all proposals, and reports.
Internal Systems:
· Develop and manage internal systems to improve the efficiency of the development team, including calendars, document management, and databases; specifically, oversee junior staff members in developing and managing these processes.
Conferences, Workshops, and Trainings:
· Attend, or schedule junior staff members to attend, ongoing local, regional, or international fundraising conferences, workshops, and trainings in order to remain up-to-date with current fundraising trends.
Requirement
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree preferred (but not required given adequate experience)
· 5-10 years of experience with non-profit fundraising; preferable if experience is focused on international public health while located directly in a low- to middle-income country
· Proven success cultivating and managing donations from diverse sources: individuals, corporations, foundations, and governments
· Experience with bilateral and multilateral funding sources, specifically with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is preferred
· Demonstrated interest in international road safety; previous experience and current connections within international road safety field a plus
· Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain and provide accurate, current information for complex public health issues.
· Experience with calculating proposal impact figures (casualties prevented, cost savings, beneficiaries), project/program design, and budgeting
· Experience managing a team of junior staff members
· Understanding of current fundraising trends and tools
· Native English speaker
· Proficiency in standard software programs (Microsoft Office, Adobe, etc.)
· Willing to travel up to 1/4 of work time
· Experience building and maintaining donation databases through common softwares (i.e. Raisers Edge, Podio, or Salesforce)

· Passionate about the fundraising profession and its ability to contribute to resolving international development issues; up-to-date with current fundraising trends
· Ability to work under-pressure and manage multiple, often-competing priorities simultaneously
· Honesty and integrity in managing sensitive internal and external matters
